{"id":11000,"date":"2014-04-22T10:11:57","date_gmt":"2014-04-22T14:11:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rcwebsite2.rc.fas.harvard.edu\/?page_id=11000"},"modified":"2015-04-03T14:41:41","modified_gmt":"2015-04-03T18:41:41","slug":"research-computing-announces-internet2-hpc-advisory-group-membership","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.rc.fas.harvard.edu\/news-home\/feature-stories\/research-computing-announces-internet2-hpc-advisory-group-membership\/","title":{"rendered":"Research Computing Announces Internet2 HPC Advisory Group Membership"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DENVER\u2014April 7, 2014\u2014Internet2 today announced at the 2014 Internet2 Global Summit the creation of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.internet2.edu\/news\/detail\/6039\/\">Internet2 Program Advisory Group for High Performance and Research Computing<\/a> and the inaugural co-chairs and members.<\/p>\n<p>\"I'm excited to lead this important venture along with my colleague and friend Dave Lifka,\" said\u00a0Jim Bottum, the Group\u2019s Co-Chair and Clemson University\u2019s Chief Information Officer. \"As high speed networking, advanced computing, and data movement become more intertwined with cloud applications and services, it becomes increasingly important for Internet2 and its membership to have a role in shaping both the ways in which the technologies are delivered and the support and social interactions on campuses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\"Cloud computing, federated architectures\u00a0and condo of condos are becoming more important\u00a0each day,\" said\u00a0Dave Lifka, Director of Research Computing and Associate Chief Information Officer at Cornell University.\u00a0\"Given that situation, it's\u00a0essential\u00a0that this Advisory Group\u00a0work closely\u00a0with the Internet2 community to ensure that advanced network services anticipate\u00a0the ever growing\u00a0requirements of our research\u00a0communities.
